I was a newly single mother of three, just beginning to create a new life for myself and my children in Aspen, Colorado.
Suddenly, at the age of 47, after the death of both my parents, I inherited more money than I ever could have imagined.
All my problems were solved, right? Wrong.
It was like winning the lottery. I had no idea how to handle this newfound wealth. I felt I had to be generous and share what I had. After all, I was the lucky one who had been blessed with all these financial resources. And I hadn’t even earned it—as many people were quick to remind me. To ease my guilt and shame, I often felt it was my job to pick up the bill more often than I should have.
Paying for everyone didn’t work so well, especially in my intimate relationships with men. Eventually the man would feel controlled, I’d feel resentful, and the relationship would end.
As one boyfriend marched out my door for the last time, I heard these words come out of my mouth: “I am going to write a book called A Woman with Means!”
“How could you write a book?” he shouted back. “You don’t know anything about money!” And he slammed the door behind him.
At the time, I thought his statement was absurd. But it turns out he was absolutely right.
Ten years later, I retitled my book A Woman on Top and am finally sharing my story.
If this situation sounds familiar, I want you to know you’re not alone. I don’t have all the answers, but I believe all our stories are part of the solution.
The solution is not to devalue men so women can rise. The solution is to elevate men and women together so we can love and support each other as society continues to change.
When I began reading this book early one night, the last thing I imagined was that I would stay up as long as it took to finish it, which turned out to be sometime early the next morning.
“Why might you do that?” you may ask. The answer, of course, is, “I just couldn’t put it down."
I had to see where it would lead, and what I discovered was that the unfolding continued all the way through to the end of the book. And the end itself, along with Suzanne's learnings and the way she is using what she's learned, is highly inspirational for those I might refer to as “seekers of the Light.” And thus, the unfolding continues, and continues, and continues--as endless as time itself.
As Suzanne points out, we are living at a time when change in an upward direction is the order of the day. A Woman on Top is certainly what I would call an “instructional manual” for those seeking a path leading to the same destination, which I refer to as “awakening into the emerging Light, consistent with the evolution of consciousness we are all involved in at this time."
I don’t recall ever starting a book and reading it cover to cover because someone, or something, within me just had to follow the thread to see where it was going. I am pleased I chose to follow Suzanne's path and see that it led her higher and higher into what I like to identify and refer to as “the workings of the Earth School.”
